IMER Regional Meeting

Comprehensive Course in Mantle Cell Lymphoma

Please see the scheduled meetings for programs in your area. This series is new neeting series.

Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of oncology nurses and midlevel practitioners who care for patients with mantle cell lymphoma (MCL).

Purpose

To educate oncology registered nurses on the management of patients receiving cancer therapy with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) inhibitors.

Program Overview

This educational program is designed to meet the needs of oncology professionals who treat patients with MCL. The program will begin with an overview of disease pathophysiology, diagnostic work-up, and an overview of current options for treating MCL in the front-line, relapsed, and salvage settings. In the latter portion of the program novel agents being used to treat MCL will be introduced and their mechanisms described in 3-D video animation. Data from recent clinical trials demonstrating the efficacy of such novel agents will be presented. The program will conclude with strategies for supportive care during treatment via case presentations of actual patient experiences. Program attendees will receive several clinical tools to be used for side effect assessment and management, as well as sample patient education tools, to utilize in their individual clinical practices.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this program, participants should be better able to:

  • Name the signature mutation associated with the pathogenesis of MCL
  • List currently recommended induction and consolidation regimens for patients with MCL
  • Describe the different strategies for autologous versus allogeneic transplant in the treatment of MCL
  • Identify currently approved regimens for treating relapsed or refractory disease
  • Name the new and emerging agents being developed to treat patients with MCL
  • Categorize how the results of recent clinical trials are being integrated into MCL management
  • Identify common toxicities of novel agents being used to treat patients with MCL
  • Distinguish algorithms for assessing and managing treatment-related peripheral neuropathy, myelosuppression, and gastrointestinal toxicities
